| DENZEL WASHINGTON (Rubin “Hurricane” Carter) is an Academy Award‘-winning actor
who is constantly on the move. Never comfortable to repeat himself or his successes, he is
always in search of new challenges, and his many film and stage portrayals bear this out.
From the embittered runaway slave in Glory (for which he won the Oscar“ for Best Support-ing
Actor), to South African freedom fighter Steven Biko in Cry Freedom (for which he was
also nominated for an Academy Award‘); from Shakespeare’s tragic historical Richard III, tothe womanizing trumpet player in Spike Lee’s Mo’ Better Blues, Washington has amazed and
entertained with a rich and colorful array of characters distinctly his own.
One of his most commanding performances to date was in the title role of Spike Lee’s bio-graphical
epic Malcolm X. Monumental in scope, Malcolm X was hailed by critics and
audiences alike as one of the best films of 1992, and Washington received a number of accolades for his portrayal of the complex and controversial Black activist, including an
Academy Award‘ nomination for Best Actor.
Washington’s most recent films include The Bone Collector, The Siege, Fallen and He Got
